Another fine year for Tolar track

In Tolar, it seems track season isn’t complete without a trip to Austin in May.

Well, one year it ended in June following suspension of play because of the Swine Flu scare throughout Texas.

But it still ended at the UIL State Track and Field Meet at the University of Texas, just as it did this year and every year since 2007.… Read the rest

Tolar pole vaulters thinking ’14 return

Tolar’s two state meet qualifiers in pole vault didn’t earn a medal over the weekend, but both are confident that they will have another chance to return to Austin.

Tolar junior Reagon Mabery was a foot and a half below the eventual winner in the girls pole vault, while Rattler teammate Rodie Brister was 21 inches back of the winner in the boys division.… Read the rest

Tolar’s Rodie Brister, a sophomore, is pictured pole vaulting at the UIL State Track and Field Meet in Austin Saturday. He finished sixth in the event, clearing 13 feet, 6 inches. He is one of seven competitors from Hood County to qualify for the prestigious meet, including two from Tolar, one from Granbury and a school-record four from Lipan.… Read the rest

Tolar, Premier athletes reach NTHSRA Finals

Tolar High School has enjoyed success in a variety of sports over its history.

Add the 2012-13 rodeo team to that list.

The squad qualified four competitors for the North Texas High School Rodeo Association Finals this weekend at the Will Rogers Coliseum in Fort Worth. The event begins Friday and wraps up Sunday.

As a team, Tolar posted its highest finish ever, sixth place out of 71 teams.… Read the rest

Tolar vaulters have each other’s back

While going to state is an annual occurrence for Reagan Mabery and Rodie Brister is making his first appearance in the elite event, the two Tolar pole vaulters have grown to depend on each other in their ultimate quest for gold.

“I have learned from Reagan that there are plenty of good restaurants down there,” said Brister with a grin.

“No, her and coach (Scotty) Miller both say it’s fast (at state) and that you need to take some extra poles.”

Mabery, normally the quiet and reserved type, said preparing alongside Brister has helped her relax some.… Read the rest

Tolar sending two to state track meet

Tolar pole vaulters Reagan Mabery and Rodie Brister both advanced to the state track meet, and the Rattlers missed out on a chance to qualify a boys relay team after a controversial call by an official.

Both Brister and Mabery qualified for the state meet on Friday with their performances in the Region II-2A meet held at Tarleton State University. Brister posted a height of 14 feet, while Mabery reached 11 feet.… Read the rest

Rattlers secure winning season

The Tolar Rattlers finished the baseball season wtih a winning record after outlasting Godley 10-7 in a road victory.

In the top of the eighth, Oompa Glavin drove in a pair of runs with a single. Alfredo Triana then scored the final run of the season, and pitcher Landon Morris finished in dominating style with two strikeouts in the bottom of the inning.… Read the rest

Tolar falls just shy of winning mark

The Tolar Lady Rattlers barely missed finishing with a winning softball record for the first time since 2010 after they dropped a 5-4 contest at Whitney Friday to end the season.

The Lady Rattlers finished 13-14 overall and 3-7 in District 10-2A.

The Lady Rattlers fell in the season finale despite Taya Vasquez pitching a three-hitter with 13 strikeouts..

Staci Ashley and Katie Keith led the Tolar offense, each with two of the Lady Rattlers’ nine hits.… Read the rest

The Tolar Rattlers’ baseball playoff hopes took a hit with an 8-4 loss at Maypearl.

Tolar (12-10, 3-5 in 10-2A)) has games left against Whitney (last night) and at Godley (Monday), and needs wins in both.

Tolar advances 19

The Tolar boys easily out-distanced the field Wednesday to grab the team title in the Class 2A Area track and field meet helt at Godley High School while the Lady Rattlers finished seventh overall.

The top four individuals in each event qualified for the 2A Region II Meet April 26-27 at Tarleton State University in Stephenville. The top two in each region will advance to the state meet in Austin, along with a wild-card entry, the third-place finisher with the best time/distance/height from across the state’s four regions.… Read the rest
