NCTA teams approaching TAPPS playoffs

The North Central Texas Academy Lady Pioneers are gearing up for a run toward what they hope will be a third consecutive TAPPS Class A state championship.

The Pioneers are hoping to soon punch their ticket to the postseason as well.

Unlike the Lady Pioneers (21-2, 9-0 in TAPPS District 2-A), who have been among the state’s best all season, the Pioneers got off to a slow start (2-10).Read the rest

NCTA, Cornerstone football players named all-state

January 5, 2013

Following second-round playoff appearances by each team, several members of the North Central Texas Pioneers and Cornerstone Crusaders received all-state honors from their respective classifications.

Five members of the Pioneers (10-2) were awarded accolades from the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools for Six-Man Division II. Meanwhile, four Crusaders were honored by the Texas Christian Athletic League for Six-Man Division II.Read the rest

Nine Crusaders named all-district

In just two seasons of varsity football, the Cornerstone Crusaders are playoff regulars with back-to-back second-round postseason appearances.

And nine members of this season’s Crusaders squad were named to the Texas Christian Athletic League Division II All-District 1 team.

The Crusaders (6-6) finished second to Stephenville Faith, which went on to repeat as state champions. Read the rest

Pioneers land 11 on all-district

In their first season with a new name and a new coach, the North Central Texas Academy Pioneers football team yielded similar results to years past, finishing 10-2 and reaching the second round of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools Six-Man Division II playoffs.

Lady Pioneers blast to 10th win of season

The North Central Texas Lady Pioneers made short work of visiting Waco Methodist Children’s Home Tuesday, winning 66-20.

Shelby Lyle led NCTA (10-2) with 27 points, including five 3-pointers.

First-year head coach Emily Britt said that while they won two of three in the Glen Rose Tournament, the two-time defending TAPPS Class A state champs weren’t pleased with experiencing a loss.Read the rest

Lady Pioneers improve mark to 4-0

The North Central Texas Academy Lady Pioneers remained unbeaten Tuesday, but had to rally in the second half for a 53-51 win at DeSoto Canterbury in a battle of state-ranked teams.

The Lady Pioneers, who improved to 4-0, are ranked 12th among small private schools by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches. Canterbury is 23rd. Read the rest

Crusaders’ season ends at Tribe Consolidated

November 21, 2012

One week after setting a school record for points in game, the Cornerstone Crusaders saw their season come to an end with a 70-20 area-round loss at Bastrop Tribe Consoliidated in a Texas Christian Athletic League playoff.

The Crusaders (6-6) found themselves down 36-6 after the first quarter and 49-20 at the half. The game was called due to six-man football’s mercy rule after Consolidated (8-2) scored 21 third-quarter points.Read the rest

Pioneers advance with rout

Getting back to their early season form, the North Central Texas Academy Pioneers made short work of visiting Lubbock Kingdom Prep in their TAPPS Six-Man Division II bidistrict football game Friday night.

The Pioneers (10-1) put the game away early in the third quarter, winning 59-12. The contest was called due to six-man football’s 45-point mercy rule. Read the rest

Pioneers top coach’s former team to go 9-1

The North Central Texas Pioneers overcame a halftime deficit to turn the game into a rout, winning 68-38 at Brownwood Victory Life Friday.

The Pioneers finished the regular season 9-1 under first-year coach Kirby Rasco. He coached at Victory Life last season.

The Pioneers now advance to the TAPPS Six-Man Division II playoffs. They will face Lubbock Kingdom Prep (6-5) Saturday at 2 p.m.Read the rest

Crusaders set record to move to second round

The Cornerstone Crusaders opened the Texas Christian Athletic League playoffs in record-setting style.

The Crusaders scored the most points in their short history, winning 96-47 over Crosby Victory and Praise in a TCAL Six-Man Division II bidistrict game Friday in Bastrop.

The victory brings the Crusaders (6-5) right back to Bastrop this Friday, where they will meet Tribe Consolidated (7-2). Read the rest
