NCTA players garner honors

After sweeping both the boys and girls Class A state basketball championships in the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools, North Central Texas garnered a plethora of postseason individual honors.

The Lady Pioneers, who won a fourth consecutive state championship, received three all-state honors. Senior Carolina Bianchi and junior Esther Udonsi were named to the first team, while senior Jennie Chen was chosen for the second team.Read the rest

Lady Pioneers capture fourth consecutive crown

MANSFIELD – It wasn’t exactly easy – but after all, no one expected winning four straight state championships would be a breeze.

The North Central Texas Academy girls basketball squad earned its fourth consecutive Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) Class A state title Saturday, finishing 22-5 in their first season under head coach Jodie Stevens.

The Lady Pioneers edged Plainview Christian 44-42 Friday in the semifinals at Mansfield High School before knocking off Fredericksburg Heritage School, 61-43, Saturday in the championship game at Timberview High School, 61-43.Read the rest

Pioneers make history with first championship

MANSFIELD – For a team that started the season seeking chemistry, the North Central Texas Academy Pioneers finished with an explosion.

The Pioneers, who dropped their first two games this season, completed a state championship drive Saturday with a 56-48 win over San Antonio Castle Hills First Baptist School at Mansfield Legacy High School in the Class A boys final of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools.Read the rest

NCTA doubling up on state title bids

The chemistry came together for both the North Central Texas Academy boys and girls basketball teams, propelling them to berths in this weekend’s TAPPS Class A State Tournament in Mansfield.

Tuesday night in the state quarterfinal round, the Pioneers downed Waxahachie Prep, 68-38, at Burleson Centennial High School, and the Lady Crusaders defeated Lubbock Kingdom Prep, 47-33, at Merkel High.

It marked the 100th victory for the 17th-ranked Lady Pioneers during the four-year span since girls basketball was reinstated at the school.Read the rest

Lady Pioneers chase No. 4

The North Central Texas Academy Lady Pioneers continued their run to a fourth consecutive Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools Class A state championship with a 64-32 second-round playoff win over Lubbock Christ the King.

Carolina Bianchi (28) and Esther Udonsi (26) combined for 54 of the Lady Pioneers’ points as they improved to 19-5.

The North Central Texas Pioneers ran their win streak to 19 games and moved within one victory of a state tournament berth with a 66-45 victory against Amarillo Ascension.

Stefan Rosic scored 28 points to lead the Pioneers (19-2), who are seeking to join the Lady Pioneers at the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools Class A State Tournament in Mansfield this weekend.Read the rest

Crusaders back at state tourney

The Cornerstone Crusaders are back at the state tournament.

This year it’s the Texas Christian Athletic Fellowship State Tournament this weekend at Trinity Christian Academy in Willow Park.

Last season Cornerstone reached the final four of the Texas Christian Athletic League.

The Crusaders (19-3) were playing Odessa Latter Rain yesterday, with the winner advancing to today’s championship game at 4:30 p.m.Read the rest

Crusaders one win from TCAF state

The Cornerstone Crusaders are hoping their switch to a new league will bring about similar results.

Cornerstone’s boys basketball team will take an 18-3 record into the postseason next week as they begin the quest for a return to state.

Last season the Crusaders reached the semifinals of the Texas Christian Athletic League State Tournament, finishing 15-10.

This season, only their third playing basketball, they are once again among the best in the state – only this time it’s in the Texas Christian Athletic Fellowship.Read the rest
