Mary was born Dec. 23, 1959, in Fort Worth, to Virgil and Mary Frances McClanahan Scriven. She married Arnold Grimes, June 25, 1988, in Fort Worth.

After graduating from Cornell School of Nursing in New York City, she worked as a nurse in Ohio and Washington state. He was born March 12, 1914 in Butte, Mont. and worked as an electrical engineer. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
