One last time: World War II veteran recalls death camps

SERVED PROUDLY: Joseph Dixon (left), a 92-year-old resident of the Stoney Creek subdivision, served as an Army staff sergeant in World War II. He was awarded a Bronze Star, which is in the display that can be seen on the wall behind Dixon in his home. Bob Tagg, 65, died March 13, 2014 in Glen Rose.

Bob was born Feb. 8, 1949 in San Antonio.

A memorial service will be held at StoneWater Church, 5645 Highway 144 North, near Glen Rose, on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 2 p.m. 

He was a proud member of the United States Navy.

Kenneth M. Niester 74, passed away March 12 in Sterling Heights, Mich. Ken was a longtime resident and business owner of Granbury prior to moving back to Michigan.

Ken was born in East Detroit, Mich. Sept. 11, 1939 to Henry and Dora Niester. He married Dorothy Hamelrath in 1958 and they had three children, Kathie, Dawn and Marty.

Virgil Gardner of Granbury, 86, passed away to our heavenly Father on March 8, 2014.

The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Our Savior Lutheran Church.

Virgil was born to Leo and Pauline Gardner in Prairieburg, Iowa. He worked as a farm helper all through his early life until he became an usher at the local Moore Theater, as well as setting bowling pens and attending school.
