Lipan quartet historic
Known much more for its statewide basketball success than its track program, things are a little flip-flopped this year in Lipan.
Neither basketball team made it to Austin, though the Lady Indians were ranked among the state’s elite all season.

Indians wrap up maybe best season
The Lipan Indians wrapped up what is believed to have been the school’s most successful baseball season ever Saturday, dropping a best-of-three Class A playoff series to Chico in Jacksboro.
The Dragons won the first game on Friday, 12-2. The Indians bounced back to level the series with an 11-10 victory Saturday. In the deciding game, also Saturday, the teams were tied 6-6 going into the bottom of the fifth when the Dragons scored 10 runs.… Read the rest
Indians facing Chico in bidistrict
Despite a late rally, the Lipan Indians dropped their regular-season baseball final at Albany, 7-6, Monday.
The Indians (9-5) are playing Chico in a best-of-three Class A bidistrict series this weekendwith all of the games in Jacksboro. If the series goes to a third game, it will be played today at 1 p.m. … Read the rest
Lipan qualifies quartet for Austin
Lipan enjoyed its best regional track meet ever, qualifying four athletes for the Class A Division II State Meet in Austin May 10-11.
Three Lady Indians and one Indians brought home silver medals from the Class A Division II Region III Meet at Bullard High School this past weekend.
Lanie Roberts took second in the 800-meter run, clocking a 2:34.41, and Catherine Thormann was runner-up in the 1600 with a 6:04.41.… Read the rest
Indians avenge upset
Having already assured themselves of a playoff berth, the Lipan Indians got a little payback against visiting Gordon Tuesday, winning 10-3.
It was the final home game of the season for Lipan (9-4, all District 10-A games), barring a home appearance in the playoffs.

Things can change in a hurry in the world of sports.
Just two seasons removed from a winless campaign, the Lipan Indians are in the baseball playoffs.
Lipan secured its first postseason berth since 2006 with Friday’s 7-4 victory at Baird.
The victory improved the Indians to 8-4, all District 10-A games. They own tie-breakers against Ranger and Baird, so even if they were to somehow fall into a tie, Lipan would still go on to the playoffs.… Read the rest

LHS golfers wrap up at regionals
The Lipan boys golf team finished eighth at the Class A Region II Golf Tournament at Shady Oaks in Baird Monday and Tuesday.
The Indians shot a 723 (370-353). They were led by Trevor Hedeman with a 171 (86-85), while Colby Clinton shot 172 (92-80). Ben Ward came in with a 179 (88-91) and Hunter Hightower posted a 201 (104-97). … Read the rest
Indians drawing close to postseason berth
The Lipan Indians moved closer to their first baseball postseason berth in seven years with a 14-11 victory against visiting Graford Tuesday.
The win improved the Indians to 7-4, all District 10-A games. They are tied with Albany for second place behind Santo (11-0), which has clinched the top spot in the league. … Read the rest
Lipan netter advances to regionals
Lipan’s Brenda Ibarra qualified for the Class Region II Tennis Tournament with a second-place finish in girls singles at the District 16-A Tournament last week.
The Region II Tournament was being held in in Abilene at press time Monday and Tuesday.
Ibarra fought back to win a playback match against an opponent from Strawn, 6-3, 6-3 to earn the regional berth.… Read the rest
