LIPAN – Tolar boys basketball coach Kent Caruthers entered Tuesday’s basketball season opener at rival Lipan with mostly junior varsity players because most of his starters are still playing football.

LIPAN – By playing poorly for a significant stretch, the Lipan Lady Indians showed folks just how good they really are Tuesday night.
The Lady Indians went nearly nine minutes without a point, missing 21 consecutive shots – in their own gym – yet they came away with a 52-33 win over rival Tolar.

The Lipan Indians got 19 points from Trevor Hedeman to lead them to a 64-49 road victory against Millsap Friday night.
The Indians (1-1) spoiled the debut of former Granbury assistant coach Josh Jones.
Joel Rice added 10 points for the Indians.
Lipan shot 50 percent (14-for-28) from 2-point range, while limiting the Bulldogs to 33 percent (8-for-24). Millsap did have a slight advantage from 3-point range, making seven to the Indians’ five.… Read the rest

Of course they have their own gym, in which they are playing a second season. But they are quite at home in the Hamilton gym, as they proved by winning the Hamilton Tournament for a third consecutive season Saturday.

The Lipan Indians’ season got off to a rough start Tuesday with a 62-43 home loss to Graford.
The Indians found themselves down 22-7 after the first quarter and 41-16 at the half.

The Lipan Lady Indians hit the road for the first time this season and came home with a 76-37 victory against Peaster Friday.
The Lady Indians (1-1), ranked second in the state in Class A Division II, had dropped their season opener at home to Brock (No. 1 in 2A, five-time defending state champions) 66-62.

Last season the Lipan Indians did something that had not been done at the school since 1990.
They missed the basketball playoffs.
But with four returning starters and a pair of key reserves back, coach Cody Chandler’s crew has their sights set on starting a new streak.
