Indians get payback

April 9, 2014

Sometimes all it takes is a little time to gel.

The Lipan Indians opened the season with a 15-6 loss at home to Ranger.

Friday, the Indians went to Ranger and won 16-8.

The win improved the Indians to 5-3 in District 10-A. They are in third place, and the top three teams advance to the playoffs.

Trevor Hedeman led Lipan offensively, going 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles.Read the rest

Lady Indians second at Gordon

April 9, 2014

The Lipan Lady Indians prepared for the upcoming District 17-A Track Meet by finishing second at the Gordon Longhorn Relays recently, scoring 115 points. Gorman won with 146.

In the boys division, the Indians were eighth with 34 points. Host Gordon topped the field with 138.5.

The North Central Texas Academy boys were third with 92 points. The Lady Pioneers were sixth with 49.Read the rest

Indians fall to rally

April 5, 2014

Albany overcame a three-run deficit to post a 9-6 victory against Lipan in a District 10-A baseball game Tuesday in Albany.

The Indians (4-3, all district games) led 3-0 after batting in the top of the third and 4-2 after the top of the fourth. Albany (7-0 in district) brought five runs home in the bottom of the fourth.

Nelson paces Indians blowout

The Lipan Indians made every hit count, registering a 12-1 victory against Gordon Friday.

The Indians (4-2 overall, 4-2 in District 10-A) collected a dozen hits in the victory.

Brady Nelson led Lipan both pitching and hitting.

On the mound, Nelson (2-0) struck out nine and walked none in five innings. The game was called at that point because of the 10-run mercy rule after five innings..Read the rest

Baird rallies past Indians late

March 29, 2014

Baird ended the Lipan Indians’ three-game winning streak in baseball with a come-from-behind 6-4 District 10-2A home victory Tuesday.

Lipan scored twice in the top of the fifth for a 4-3 lead, but Baird bounced back with three in the bottom of the inning.

“The offense couldn’t get any timely hits,” said Lipan coach Mike Permenter.

The Indians (3-2, 2-2 in 10-2A) got 11 strikeouts from pitcher Lance Ferguson.Read the rest

Indians rip Graford for third win in row

The Lipan Indians, behind the two-hit pitching of Hunter Hightower, made short work of Graford Friday, winning 10-0.

The game was called after five innings because of the mercy rule.

Hightower struck out nine and walked three.

The Indians (3-1, 2-1 in District 10-A) have scored 27 runs in their past two games.

Lipan duo plays at Waco

Lipan’s Brenda Ibarra advanced to the third round of the Iredell Tennis Tournament, played in Waco.

Ibarra, a regional qualifier in 2013, defeated the top-seeded player from Kerens 8-0. She then outlasted Moody’s No. 1 player, 8-7.

Ibarra lost in the quarterfinals to Iredell’s top player, 8-2.

Also from Lipan, Tanden Foust lost 8-6 to Hillsboro’s No. 1 player. He bounced back to win consolation, topping Lingleville’s No.Read the rest

Indians pull away late

The Lipan Indians broke open a close game with 10 runs in the final two innings, winning 17-4 at Eula Tuesday.

The Indians (2-1) scored four runs in the sixth and six in the seventh.

“I was very impressed with the effort from the team,” said Lipan coach Mike Permenter.

Freshman leads Lipan boys’ honors

The Lipan Indians made a return to the basketball postseason this year, and based on their All-District 17-A honors, the future looks solid.

Three of the Indians’ five all-district selections, chosen by the league’s coaches, are underclassmen.

They are led by freshman Derrick Cook, Newcomer of the Year. He averaged 11.3 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.1 blocks.

First-team choices are sophomore Lance Ferguson (10.8 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.6 steals) and senior Trevor Hedeman (14.4 points, 4..4 rebounds, 2.4 assists).Read the rest

Roberts tops Lady Indians’ accolades

After sweeping through the basketball league unscathed, the Lipan Lady Indians also dominated the All-District 17-A honors chosen by the district coaches.

Sophomore Lanie Roberts was chosen Most Valuable Player, and senior Shauna Coleman was named Defensive MVP. Senior Kylee Cross, who moved to Lipan this season, was selected Newcomer of the Year.
