Relay For Life begins Friday evening at AMS

With the theme Dream Big, Hope Big, Relay Big, the Relay For Life of Hood County is set for 6 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Saturday at the Acton Middle School track. The free, outdoor event will spotlight cancer survivors and their caregivers.

Activities include food, entertainment, family-friendly activities and a luminaria ceremony at 9 Friday night.

Seventeen Texas wineries will be featured at the fourth annual Granbury Wine Walk Friday and Saturday, April 26-27. Wine Walk booths will be open from noon to 8 p.m. both days.

The wine tastings will be seasoned with a little art, some food and live music on the historic square and surrounding area.

SpellBound will open Saturday on the square

Talk about a quick turn around. After purchasing a building on the square some eight weeks ago, Ron and Tina Brown are opening shop Saturday.

The Brown’s eclectic new store, SpellBound, is located at 109 E. Bridge St., on the north side of the Granbury square.

Lipan sends 11 to regionals

Lipan will be well-represented at the Class A Division II Region III Track Meet.

Eleven athletes advanced from the combined District 17-A/Area 17-18 Meet at Strawn Thursday, led by Shelby Bontke in four events.

In all five boys and girls advanced among the top four in their respective events.

Pooch Plantation opens

The Friends of Pooch Plantation (FOPP) could not have ordered a better day last weekend when the grand opening of Pooch Plantation, Pecan’s own off-leash dog park, took place.

The Granbury Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for the opening. FOPP members and president Mary Kunkle thanked everyone who helped make the day such a success.

A boost to the United Way campaign in Hood County

Jan Caldwell Hulett (center), from Luminant, recently presented a check for $34,148.82 to the United Way of Hood County board of directors for the 2013 United Way campaign. Luminant matches employee contributions 50 cents on the dollars for their employees who donate to the United Way of Hood County.
