Square to get a makeover

March 26, 2013

The Commissioners Court has given its blessing to a cooperative effort called the Courthouse Beautification Project after hearing Tuesday morning (March 26) from Heather Cleveland, Scott Young and Granbury Communications Director Shanna Smith. The project involves placing large potted plants around the perimeter of the courthouse and possibly, at some point, some benches. Cleveland told commissioners that the city of Granbury will take responsibility for watering the non-toxic plants and Hood County master gardeners will handle maintenance. Local businesses have promised to provide soil and plants, and the beautification group is researching sources of funding to do more. It was an easy sell to the Commissioners Court. “You had me at hello,” County Judge Darrell Cockerham said. He told Cleveland, however: “You might need to say plant containers. The sheriff gets upset about pot.”
