Chief Appraiser Greg Stewart of the Hood County Appraisal District said the reason many Hood County homeowners are having to refile for homestead exemptions is because of a law passed by the 82nd Legislature. Stewart said that notices were sent out last year to about half of Hood County’s homeowners. Notices were sent to the other half last week. Refiling requires filling out a form and returning it to the Appraisal District office, along with a copy of the homeowner’s drivers license and vehicle registration receipt. The deadline is April 30.
