Second day of murder trial includes gun testimony

Among the 15 people who testified Wednesday on the second day of the capital murder trial of Gordon Ray Lewis was Richard McClatchy, a current Hood County Jail inmate facing two felony drug charges who stated to the jury that Lewis pulled a gun on him a few hours before the victim in the case, 63-year-old Gene Sabin, died from a single gunshot wound inside the bar and grill he managed, T.J.’s Private Club and Cafe, in January 2012. Under persistent questioning from Assistant District Attorney Patrick Berry, McClatchy admitted telling a Texas Ranger investigating the case that the “odds” of that gun being the same one used in Sabin’s murder was “a 10 on a scale of 1 to 10.”
