Approximately 40 relatives of Helen Holladay gathered last Saturday (May 3) for a funeral in Carlton Cemetery near Dublin, a relative told the Hood County News Friday. Holladay, a Fort Worth woman who had a weekend home in Hood County’s Whippoorwill Bay with her husband, Herman Holladay, had been missing since she was reportedly seen leaving that subdivision on Sept. 29, 1979. Her skeletal remains were found April 17 in Lake Granbury in a heavily corroded pickup later identified to be hers. DNA testing was going to be done to identify the remains, but soon afterward a positive match was made using her dental records. No one was ever arrested in connection with her disappearance, although investigators at the time stated that her husband was a suspect. He died in 1987.
