Pirate Stadium going to synthetic turf

February 11, 2013

Synthetic turf – the type at Cowboys Stadium – will replace the grass field at Granbury High’s Pirate Stadium, the school board voted Monday night after a long discussion. The cost is estimated at $900,000, but the school is expected to recoup about half the cost through an energy savings plan that includes replacing old air conditioners and inefficient lights, school Superintendent James Largent said. The synthetic turf field will allow more use by students in activities other than just football, school officials said. Area high school stadiums with synthetic turf include Joshua, Godley, Venus, Aledo and Glen Rose.
