Lavon man found guilty on two counts of aggravated assault

The jury in Judge Ralph Walton’s 355th Judicial District Court delivered a guilty verdict shortly before 4:30 p.m Friday in the four-day trial of 39-year-old Justin Davis Johnson, a resident of Lavon, on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in a December 2011 shooting incident on a hunting lease near Tolar. Officials said the incident left Dallas-area resident Ryan Armstrong permanently paralyzed from the waist down. The punishment phase of Johnson’s trial will commence at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 19. It could range from two years of probation up to 20 years in prison and a $10,000 fine on each count. An ambulance was called to the Justice Center after one of Johnson’s relatives reportedly fainted when the guilty verdict was read. She was treated at the scene, just outside the courtroom, but was not transported.
