Health officials: Don’t eat frozen pomegranate kernels; Hepatitis contamination possible

Consumers should not currently eat Woodstock Frozen Organic Pomegranate Kernels, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services. The product may be contaminated with Hepatitis A, a virus that can cause serious health issues. Scenic Fruit Co. issued a recall of that product, typically sold in 8-ounce packages. DSHS is advising people to check their freezers and dispose of the product. A list of recalled products can be found online ( As of earlier today (Friday, June 28), no Hepatitis A cases connected to this product had been identified in Texas. The DSHS also stated that people who consumed this product in the last two weeks and have never been vaccinated should contact their health provider for medical advice.
