Goodbye, John Graves

Texas’ dean of literature, John Graves, best known for his classic “Goodbye to a River,” died early Wednesday at his Glen Rose home. He was 92. In “Goodbye to a River,” Graves chronicled his canoe trip down the Brazos River years before Lake Granbury was dammed in 1969. Graves included pieces of history of those river counties, including two feuding families and a shootout that resulted in Hood County’s only legal hanging.
