Former Everman mayor, two-time North Hood fire chief dies

Paul Painter, 78, who had served two stints as fire chief of the North Hood County Volunteer Fire Department and was a former mayor of Everman, died Wednesday morning at his home in Granbury. Painter was currently treasurer of the North Hood VFD, as well as still serving as a firefighter and engineer. A blood drive in Painter’s honor, which will be for a blood bank for Hood County firefighters, is set for a week from Saturday. The Dec. 15 event will be 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Granbury VFD Fire Station 1, Hood County Fire Marshal Brian Fine said. Posters are available for the event.
