Family friends: Hood County man who had West Nile virus has died

A Hood County man who was in a Fort Worth hospital undergoing medical treatment for West Nile virus symptoms has died, according to several friends and acquaintances of the family. The death is believed to be the first attributed to the virus among Hood County residents during a record-setting year for the virus in the Dallas-Fort Worth region. As of early Thursday evening, the Texas Department of State Health Services website still does not list Hood County as having even a single case of West Nile virus, although there was a previous one of another man hospitalized in Fort Worth that was confirmed by a postive test received on Aug. 13, according to Hood County Environmental Health Director James McAusland.
