The “Day in My Shoes” event at Granbury Middle School planned for Friday has been cancelled because of the number of absences. Many students stayed home Monday because parents were concerned about safety in the wake of Friday’s school shootings in Connecticut. Officers are stationed at all Granbury campuses this week. GMS teachers wanted to keep the focus on instruction for the remainder of the week, school spokesman Jeff Meador said. Some students will need to make up common assessments given Monday for math and science, Meador said. Also, there were some seventh and eighth graders who were absent last week and missed English/language arts benchmark testing. The school plans to reschedule “A Day in My Shoes,” which involves parents, for the spring.
