‘Baby Riley,’ sister to remain in foster care for now

A court decision made Wednesday by Judge Ralph Walton means that Riley Alston, who was found in an extremely emaciated state in his home in the Sandy Beach subdivision in December weighing only 9 pounds at 8 months of age, will remain in his current foster care home for now along with his sister Katelynn. The parents, Justin Alston and Brittany Oliphant-Alston, who remain incarcerated facing first-degree felony charges of injury to a child, have not yet lost legal custody, although a paternal grandmother has told authorities she is interested in legally adopting the two children. The court date for the two parents has been moved to late October, according to Assistant District Attorney Lori Kaspar.
