Transitioning Tolar tumbles on road

December 7, 2013

The Tolar Rattlers started strong and played Comanche even through one quarter, but then the home team pulled away to defeat the Rattlers 54-39 in their basketball game Tuesday night.

Hunter Ryan led the Rattlers with 11 points and seven rebounds. T.J. Foster had 11 rebounds, eight assists and four steals.

The game was tied at 12 after the opening quarter, but then Comanche outscored the Rattlers (0-2) in each of the next three periods to slowly pull away.

“Six of my kids are just out of football,” said Tolar coach Kent Caruthers, noting the Rattlers advanced to the second round of the Class 2A Division II playoffs, which was followed by the Thanksgiving break, allowing for little basketball practice time.

Cason Montief led Comanche with 25 points. He was also quarterback of the football team.

“He’s smooth. He’s a difference maker,” said Caruthers.

The Rattlers hurt themselves with a poor night at the free throw line, going 7-for-19. They also struggled from long distance shooting field goals and were just 2-for-19 from 3-point range.

“We didn’t shoot well beyond 15 feet,” Caruthers said with a grin.

The Rattlers are playing in the Dublin Tournament this weekend.
