Tolar wins with defense

The Tolar Lady Rattlers kept Benita Carlton’s record unblemished in her first season as the team’s head coach, winning 44-27 at Breckenridge Saturday.

Tolar (2-0) was led by Kacey Frazier wtih 14 points, while Hannah Peregrino scored 10 points and grabbed nine rebounds.

“I saw some improvements from the first game, but there’s still so much more we need to improve on and get better at,” said Carlton. “We had way too many turnovers, and we need to improve in that area.”

The Lady Rattlers overcame 30 turnovers. They did help themselves with 13 steals distributed among seven players. They also blocked five shots defensively.

The Lady Rattlers shot 52 percent from the field (14-for-27) overall and were 3-for-7 from beyond 3-point range.

Tolar held Breckenridge to single digits in three of the four quarters, including just three in the first and five in the third.
