The Tolar Lady Rattlers continued their torrid offensive play by outlasting Godley 9-8 in nine innings at Godley Friday.
The game was the District 10-2A opener for both teams. It was also the second time in a week that the Lady Rattlers (10-7 overall) had defeated Godley, having won 6-1 the previous Saturday in the finals of the Perrin Tournament.
“We went to Godley determined to win our first district game and the girls worked hard every inning,” said Tolar coach Christy Collie. “They were not going to settle for a loss, and because of that mental attitude they defeated Godley in nine innings.
“It was a fun game to coach.”
In winning for a seventh consecutive game, the Lady Rattlers collected 14 hits distributed among five players. They were led by Taya Vasquez, who was 4-for-5 with a double, triple and three runs batted in. Hannah Lee also had three hits and drove in a run.
Every Lady Rattler who collected a base hit also drove in a run.
Pitcher Staci Ashley improved to 7-3, surrendering five hits and striking out 13. She was helped by several key defensive plays, most notably from second baseman Laura Anderson.
The Lady Rattlers are seeking a return to the playoffs after having missed the past two seasons.
Tolar’s 10 victories already matches the total for all of last season and exceeds the previous year.
