In a game featuring a score that more closely resembled a football outcome than softball, the Tolar Lady Rattlers came up short Tuesday at Millsap, falling 18-17.
Along with the offensive outburst for each squad, the game went eight innings before the Lady Bulldogs won.
Tolar (3-7) had 20 hits in the loss. The Lady Rattlers were led by Kayla Bonnell, who had five hits, including a triple, and two runs batted in.
Tatum Newton was a home run shy of hitting for the cycle, collecting a single, double and triple with three RBIs. Katie Keith had three hits with three RBIs, and Staci Ashley had three hits.
Millsap forced an extra inning with a two-run rally in the bottom of the seventh. The Lady Rattlers regained the lead, 17-15, with a pair of runs in the top of the eighth, but surrendered three runs in the bottom of the inning.
Tolar jumped out to a 13-2 lead after the top of the fifth, but Millsap erupted for 11 runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Tolar never trailed until the eighth inning.
“The game was under our control until the bottom of the fifth,” said Tolar coach Christie Collie. “We let them back in the game. We should have won the game in the eighth.
“With that being said, our loss is due to our mental defense.”
