Tolar breezed past Maypearl Friday in a 61-20 victory at home, lifting the Rattlers to 5-3 in District 10-2A basketball play.
The Rattlers overwhelmed the undermanned Maypearl squad in the first quarter, with a 19-2 margin. They sailed into halftime with a 35-11 advantage.
Ty Johnston led Tolar in scoring with 13 points, while Hunter Ryan and Jacob Phillips added 11 and 10 points, respectively. Phillips also notched three steals and two blocked shots.
Tolar coach Kent Caruthers said his squad, which improved to 14-8 overall, recently had formed the habit of starting slowly in games.
“The last few games we’ve been coming out of the gate pretty slow, no matter who we played,” said Caruthers, who noted that Maypearl now has only seven players left on its varsity after some were dismissed from the team. “We came out shooting the ball pretty well. We got some good steals and layups and we got them down early.
“We executed the game plan well. The kids are executing what we ask them to do. That’s about all you can ask them to do.”
