Springtown rallies late to topple Tolar

March 8, 2014

Springtown scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to upend the Tolar Lady Rattlers 4-2 in a nondistrict softball game Tuesday.

Tolar pitcher Staci Ashley surrendered just two hits and struck out nine.

Searra Mace and Hannah Lee each had two hits.

Lee’s inside-the-park home run put Tolar ahead by a run in the fourth. Then, Mace had a double in the top of the fifth and was brought home by Ashley.

“Staci pitched a strong game. The hits just came at the wrong time,” said Tolar coach Christy Collie.

“Our defense is looking sweet.”

Kayla Bonnell had a pair of clutch catches in left field, Carson King had a catch off a hard-hit ball, and Mace had a catch down the right-field line to prevent some runs.
