CHICKEN EXPRESS SHOOTOUT SET FOR SATURDAY AT GHS

The Granbury Pirates will host the annual Chicken Express Shootout preseason basketball tournament Saturday at Granbury High.

The tournament will feature 13 teams. The schedule is:

9 a.m. – Granbury vs. Stephenville at James Wann Sports Center; Granbury JV vs. Crowley JV at Pirate Gym.

10 a.m. – Brock varsity vs. Crowley varsity, James Wann; Graford JV vs. Huckabay JV, Pirate Gym; Lipan vs. Granbury 3, Athletics Gym.

11 a.m. – Graford varsity vs. Huckabay varsity, James Wann; Brock JV vs. Crowley JV, Pirate Gym.

Noon – Stephenville varsity vs. Brock varsity, James Wann; Granbury JV. vs. Brock JV, Pirate Gym.

The North Central Texas Academy Lady Pioneers outlasted Wichita Christian in volleyball 25-19, 22-25, 25-13, 22-25, 16-14 recently.

“The girls were on fire. The coach was on fire. The fans were on fire. Great night all-around,” said coach Kari Yeager.

Cynthia Rivas led the Lady Pioneers (5-12) with 12 kills, while Emily Bloyd and Carolina Bianchi each added six.

Esther Udonsi had five kills, and Sydney Lindsey finished with four.

Denton Selwyn defeated the Lady Pioneers earlier, 25-20, 24-26, 25-19, 25-21.

Nichole Oeschle served eight aces for NCTA.

WC DOWNS CORNERSTONE

The Cornerstone Lady Crusaders dropped a volleyball contest to Weatherford Christian 25-11, 25-19, 25-15. Olivia Webb led Cornerstone with four kills and an ace.

ACE AT PECAN

Gene Brinker made a hole-in-one on the eighth hole at Pecan Plantation Country Club recently. His shot was witnessed by E.C. Goodman, V. Willmeth and R. Roberts.

CHILES PLACES HIGH IN

SENIOR AMATEUR TOURNEY

Granbury golfer Lelan Chiles tied for seventh in the Texas Senior Amateur Championship in Tyler last weekend. Chiles shot 215 for three rounds (68-73-74).

James Long of Granbury also competed, but did not make the cut to the final round after shooting 76 and 78.

PLAYERS PARTNERSHIP

GOLF TOURNAMENT

The First Players Partnership Golf Tournament is set for Saturday and Sunday at Harbor Lakes. The two-man best-ball 36-hole scramble tournament has a $500 entry fee that includes green fees, carts, range balls, food and awards.

Proceeds benefit the United Way of Hood County

Players must be age 18 or above. The field is limited to the first 100 entries. There will be a Championship Division and a Flighted Division, with players placed following the opening round.

Gift cards will be awarded as prizes. There will be tee gifts, a dinner/party, player evaluation, hole contests, and an optional skins game.

Sponsorships are also available beginning at $150 and ranging to $3,000.

CHAMBER GOLF CLASSIC

The 2013 Chamber Classic Golf Tournament is scheduled for Oct. 18 at Harbor Lakes Golf Club. Registration and lunch are at 11 a.m. with the tournament having a 1 p.m. shotgun start. An awards dinner will follow at 5:30 p.m.

Entry fee is $125 per player, and this includes green fees, cart, range balls, goody bag, lunch and snacks during and after play.

The format is a four-person scramble with gross and net trophies.

Mulligans are also available, and there will be a raffle for prizes. Sponsorships are available beginning at $25 and going up to $1,000.

YMCA KIDS TRIATHLON

The Hood County YMCA will host a Kids Triathlon on Sunday at 2 p.m. There are three divisions, Mini-Tri for ages 5 and up, Junior for ages 5-10, and Senior for ages 11-15.

There is also a Bonus Family Challenge Division that will feature one parent and one child combining times (parents race last).

The Mini-Tri will feature a 40-yard swim, 1.5-mile bike and half-mile run. The Junior will have an 80-yard swim, 3-mile bike ride and half-mile run. The Senior will have a 160-yard swim, 6-mile bike ride and 1-mile run.

The event begins at 2 p.m. with packet pickup and transition opening at noon. Cost is $30 per child, $25 per child for team registration (minimum of 10 per team) and $50 for family competition.

JOSEPH’S LOCKER RUN

The Joseph’s Locker 5K run is set for Saturday at 7 a.m. at Shanley Park. Entry fee is $25 in advance and $30 the day of the race. This includes a T-shirt.

Donations of non-perishable food items will also be accepted the day of the race.
