South Hills slows down Granbury run

March 22, 2014

The Granbury Lady Pirates’ showdown with Aledo took a detour Tuesday night at they were upset 2-1 in Fort Worth by South Hills.

The loss dropped the Lady Pirates (9-4 overall) to 4-1 in District 7-4A. They fell a game behind defending champion Aledo, at whom they were playing last night.

Granbury pitchers Kristen Money and Destini Lopez combined to throw a one-hitter, but the Lady Pirates were undone by a couple of critical errors in the field.

The Lady Scorpions broke a scoreless tie in the fourth with two unearned runs.

Granbury, despite getting six hits of its own, could not get them during the clutch moments.

“We struggled hitting the ball, and had errors,” said Lady Pirate coach Mallory Smith.

“The girls pitched well.”

Lopez also had a pair of hits offensively, as did Maci Samuelson.

Samuelson also had the lone extra-base hit for Granbury, a double. Avery Villa drew their lone walk.

The Lady Pirates had outscored their first four district opponents 79-6.
