Slow start dooms Lady Rattlers

The Tolar Lady Rattlers fell into a 17-point hole after the opening quarter against visiting Paradise Tuesday night and were unable to recover, falling 53-43.

The Lady Rattlers (5-5) were down 22-5 after the first eight minutes as Paradise blitzed to an early command. Tolar closed to within 35-21 at the half, but found themselves down 46-26 entering the fourth as Paradise once again came out sizzling in the third quarter.

“They came out with more intensity than we did,” said Tolar coach Benita Carlton.

“We have to come out focused and ready to play from start to finish.”

Meredith Caudle led Tolar, coming close to posting a double-double in the contest. She finished the evening with 15 points and pulled down nine rebounds.

The Lady Rattlers struggled holding onto the ball, however. They finished the night with 26 turnovers.

The game also featured physical play and quite a number of fouls were called by officials.Tolar went to the free throw line 29 times, and the Lady Rattlers maed 18 of their free throws attempts.
