The Tolar Rattlers finished the baseball season wtih a winning record after outlasting Godley 10-7 in a road victory.

In the top of the eighth, Oompa Glavin drove in a pair of runs with a single. Alfredo Triana then scored the final run of the season, and pitcher Landon Morris finished in dominating style with two strikeouts in the bottom of the inning.

The Rattlers finished 13-11 overall and 4-6 in District 10-2A.

“It was good to finish with a win after losing three straight for the second time in district play,” said Tolar coach Trey Holcomb. “Landon (Morris) did an outstanding job throwing strikes and competing on the mound in just his second appearance of the season.”

The Rattlers had 11 hits in the game, led by Morris, Triana and Tyler McMillen with two each. also Dakota Endsley doubled and Lance Smith drove in three runs.

“We hit the ball well once we got settled down, and though we made way too many errors (8), we were able to get the hits in the double digits, and that was enough to get the win.

“I’m proud of this group of seniors. They showed a lot of heart this season.”

They also showed a lot of resiliency against Godley in a back-and-forth contest. Tolar took leads of 2-1, 4-3, and 6-5, only to see Godley come right back with two runs in three consecutive innings.

Finally, the Rattlers tied the game in the top of the sixth, and the defense took over.

The Rattlers’ victory total was almost twice as many as last season when they finished 8-17. They also showed a significant improvement in district as they were 1-13 in 2012.
