Rattlers second at Keene despite missing a few

April 2, 2014

For the first time in 2014 the Tolar Rattlers did not win a track meet.

However, given the fact that several of their members were in Austin competing in the prestigious Texas Relays, finishing second at Keene isn’t bad.

The Rattlers had won each of their first four meets.

Rodie Brister and Dalton Shaw each won a pair of gold medals for the Rattlers at Keene.

Brister, a state qualifier in the pole vault last season, cleared 14 feet for the top spot in this meet. He also won the 110-meter hurdles in convincing fashion by nearly two seconds, clocking a 16.06.

Shawran away with the 300 hurdles by nearly a second and a half, posting a 43.50. His high jump of 6 feet was two inches above second place.

The Lady Rattlers captured two gold medals. Reagan Mabery won the pole vault by two feet, clearing a season-best 11-6. Tristyn Klein’s throw of 96-2 won by nearly six feet in the discus.

Mabery is attempting to qualify for state in the pole vault for a fourth consecutive year.

Godley, Tolar’s competition in 10-2A, captured the meet championship among both the boys and girls.

TEXAS RELAYS

Tolar had four entries in the prestigious event at the University of Texas in Austin.

Both the boys and girls 1600-meter relays posted a season-best time.

The boys quartet of Cory Solomon, Garrett Winston, Kaleb Gilliam and Corbin Wood clocked a 3:31.85 for 22nd place in the High School Division I.

The girls foursome of Madison Prichard Warren, Meg Gilliam, Tristyn Klein and Shelby posted a time of 4:16.66 for 45th place.

The Tolar boys had two other relay entries. The 800 (Blake Watson, Winston, Blaine Denton, Solomon) finished 30th with a 1:33.73. The same foursome was 39th in the 400 relay with a time of 45.99.
