Proving that baseball is indeed a team sport, the Tolar Rattlers had 14 players post a statistic in Tuesday’s 18-5 road rout of Itasca.
Five pitchers threw in the six-inning game that was called because of the University Interscholastic League mercy rule. They gave up just two hits and two earned runs.
Four of those five, along with nine others, had a base hit and/or drove in a run.
“Just getting work in for district,” said Tolar coach Darrell Hogan.
“The team is coming along great.”
Cole Kratochvil and Brandon Northcutt each hit a single a triple, while Kratochvil also drove in three runs.
Six of the Rattlers’ 13 hits were for extra bases, including a triple by Cade Brown and doubles by Stevie Morphew, alec Elder and Dylan Morris.
The Rattlers (7-3) began District 10-2A play yesterday at home against Rio Vista. Hogan considers his squad one of the teams to watch.
“I think we will definitely be contenders,” he said. “Grandview is the team to beat.”
The Rattlers host Grandview Tuesday.
