The Tolar Rattlers, just a week after being winless in three District 10-2A games, suddenly find themselves in the thick of the postseason chase with back-to-back league victories.
The Rattlers battled back from a 5-0 deficit in their most recent win, topping Godley 6-5 when they scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Oompa Glavin led Tolar at the plate, going 2-4of-4 with an RBI. Alfredo Triana reached base three times, once via a base hit and twice after being hit by a pitch. He also drove in a run.
Triana has been hit by a pitch a team-leading 11 times this season. In all, the Rattlers (11-8, 2-3 in 10-2A) have been hit by a pitch 44 times.
“This week’s win was a must,” said Tolar coach Trey Holcomb. “I was concerned because we didn’t get to practice outside much this week, and we started off rough with a string of errors early that Godley was able to take advantage of.
“Our guys have shown all season the ability to come from behind, and did so again with a very solid pitching effort by Cole Chism and a great job by the early guys in the lineup, getting on base and coming around to score.
“We need to get some of the teams that got us in the first round of district here in the next two weeks to put ourselves in the playoffs.”
The top three teams from district will advance to the postseason. Tolar is seeking its first playoff berth since moving up to 2A in 2010.
