Seven student-athletes made Tolar’s football academic all-district team for 2013.
Coach Mike Franklin said that, for the second year in a row, the requirements in the District 6-2A alignment state that the varsity lettermen named must have straight-As to qualify.
Tolar’s seniors on the academic all-district football team are Corbin Wood, T.J. Foster and Clay Greenwell. The four juniors are Dakota Endsley, Rodie Brister, Nathan Langston and Hunter Ryan.
“These young me truly had to earn it,” head coach Mike Franklin said. “Academic all-district qualifying is a lot more stringent than a lot of people (other districts).
“But, it’s a good thing in a way. To be on that team, it’s something special. It’s straight-A’s you’ve got to maintain while you’re also playing football. You’ve got to take care of business.”
Wood, the Rattlers’ starting quarterback, was also named the district’s Offensive Player of the Year. Endsley was a first-team defensive back, Brister was a first-team linebacker, Ryan was a first-team linebacker, Langston was a second-team fullback, and Greenwell was a second-team pick on the offensive line.
The Rattlers qualified for the Class 2A Division II playoffs for the second straight season. They finished 9-3 for the second year in a row after falling to S&S Consolidated in the second round of postseason play.
