The Tolar Rattlers entered District 10-2A baseball play feeling pretty good about themselves, sporting an 8-3 record.
Now, however, three games in, the Rattlers are struggling to get their first league victory.
The latest Tolar setback was 4-3 at Whitney Saturday, the second straight one-run loss in which the winning run was scored late.
Whitney plated the game-winner in the bottom of the sixth inning, overcoming a 3-1 Rattlers lead.
Five different Rattlers collected hits, with Dakota Endsley, Brandon Northcutt and Lance Smith driving in a run.
“We had 11 strikeouts in the game and are going to have to start putting the ball in play more,” said Tolar coach Darrell Hogan.
“We have three more road games starting with Godley and Rio Vista this week. We definitely need some wins.”
The Rattlers’ quirky schedule has them playing five straight road games in district, this being the second contest in that grueling stretch. They then finish with four consecutive games at home.
