Rattlers cold at Whitney

January 26, 2013

Tolar’s boys basketball team stumbled in the first game of the second half of District 10-2A play Tuesday night on the road, 61-46 to Whitney.

The loss all but ended Tolar’s title hopes, but they are still in good position to advance to the playoffs as one of the top three teams.

Tolar misfired on 28 of the 37 shots in the first half and couldn’t climb out of a hole.

“When you shoot like that, you get behind,” Tolar coach Kent Caruthers said. “Our shots just weren’t falling for us. We had open looks, we just weren’t making them.”

Tolar made 20 of 63 field goals overall, and was 3-of-11 at the free throw line.

“They just hit their shots,” Caruthers said of the Wildcats. “That one kid (T.Q. Echols) hit everything he put up (29 points.”

Tolar’s rebound leaders were Corbin Wood (9) and Landon Morris (8). Morris also recorded four steals.
