Rattlers 2nd in own tourney

February 27, 2013

The Tolar Rattlers continued their strong start to the baseball season by taking second place in their own Wood Bat Classic over the weekend.

The Rattlers (3-1) began the tournament with a 14-0 blowout of the Lake Worth junior varsity, followed by a 9-4 win against Rosebud-Lott. They suffered their first loss of the season, 5-3, when Waskom scored twice in the top of the seventh Saturday.

“We got two good wins, one of them against a tough Rosebud-Lott squad, and we played toe-to-toe with Waskom, who I am certain will be a playoff team this season,” said Tolar coach Trey Holcomb.

“We got some good experience going into our second week of nondistrict and tournament play.”

Dusty Kimmell had five hits and six RBIs for the Rattlers, including a home run, double and triple. Alfredo Triana was hit by a pitch five times, including three times against Lake Worth.

The Rattlers also stole 17 bases, led by Dakota Endsley and Triana with four each and Tyler McMillen with three.
