The Granbury Pirates got a glimpse of the course on which they plan to be playing the 4A Region I Tournament next month when they finished third in the Regional Preview at Diamondback in Abilene
The Pirates shot a two-day total of 632. Trophy Club Nelson won with a 612.
With three teams advancing to state from regionals for the first time, Granbury coach Steve Ward is optimistic his team will get over the proverbial hump and make the trip to Austin in May.
“The boys did well, and they are getting better at playing this course,” said Ward.
Travis Benson shot a 147 (74-73) to tie for first place, but lost in a playoff. He advanced to state individually last season and finished third.
Justin Largent was also in the top 10 at Diamondback, taking seventh with a 155 (81-74).
Rounding out the Granbury scores were Patrick Wilson at 161 (81-80), Zach Wall at 169 (84-85), and Briggs Berry with a 174 (89-85). Baker White, playing as a medalist only, shot 184 (94-90).
The top four scores in each round comprise the team total.
