Pirates in 4-way tie for first

March 27, 2013

Granbury Pirate skipper Brad Hart said he expected another close race in District 7-4A baseball.

Entering play last night, four teams, including the Pirates, were tied for first place with 4-1 records.

“The way it looks it will be very difficult to sweep many teams. It’s crazy as usual,” said Hart. “It will take eight wins to get in (the playoffs). Everyone in our district is starting to play pretty good right about now.”

The Pirates (10-7 overall) began their biggest week of the season by hosting co-leader Aledo (15-5 overall) last night. Thursday, the Pirates travel to another co-leader, Arlington Heights.

Granbury’s lone district loss was 8-2 at another leader, Southwest. Aledo beat Southwest and Heights, and was upset by South Hills.

The Pirates climbed back into the tie for first with a 2-1 victory against visiting Trimble Tech Friday. Miles Wagner (5-1) and Nathan Hickey (first save) combined for a three-hitter.

Wagner also scored the winning run after he tripled and came home on a hit by Caleb Bendewald in the sixth inning.
