The Granbury Pirates avoided a repeat of a year ago by defeating Fort Worth Arlington Heights 11-0 Thursday night at Tidwell Field.
Last season, the Pirates could have clinched third in district with a win in the season final. They lost back-to-back games against Mansfield Summit, settling for the fourth seed.
Thursday’s win, however, gives the Pirates (15-13, 9-5) the third seed from 7-4A for bidistrict. They will face Waco University late next week.
Granbury pitcher Nathan Hickey (6-2) was nothing short of dominant against district runner-up Heights (23-7, 11-3). He struck out eight and surrendered a single hit before the game was called in the fifth inning.
Miles Wagner ended the game with a towering home run over the 375-foot fence in center field.
