For the second time this season the Granbury Pirates and Stephenville Yellowjackets fought to a tie on the soccer field, this time 1-1 in Stephenville Tuesday.
This time the deadlock was in a District 15-4A contest, leaving the teams tied atop the standings, each at 2-0-1. However, Granbury (10-3-5 overall) owns the tiebreaker by virtue of a one-goal scoring advantage in all district games.
“I’d rather have the win and the cushion,” said Granbury coach Doug Kissinger. “I don’t want it to go down to the wire.
Fernando Sanchez gave the Pirates a 1-0 lead early in the second half. The Yellowjackets came back and tied the contest off a throw-in with about 20 minutes left.
“They’ve got a kid who can throw the ball 60 yards,” said Kissinger.
“Our touch was better this game. We got a little sprinkle, and the wet grass made the field even faster.”
