Pirates battle Aledo in Burleson tourney

In a re-enactment of the fall team tennis season, Granbury and Aledo battled for most of the top spots in the Burleson Tournament last weekend.

Granbury won four divisions, got third in three others, and won a consolation trophy.

“The Burleson Tournament had 16 of the best teams in the area, and Granbury and Aledo battled it out, just like in the fall,” said Granbury coach Jeff Bramlett.

“Unfortunately, they just edged us out again. Looks like we are headed for a showdown at district.”

Kate Bramlett and Peter Mueller knocked off one of the top mixed doubles teams in the state to take first place in the A division. Kasi Krieger and Joel Rodgers won the B division.

Megan Wright and Alyssa Tigner teamed to win the A division in girls doubles, while Alex Jenny and Keelyn Taylor took the top spot in the B division.

Taking third were Josh Smith and Trace Chiappe in boys B doubles, Elizabeth Morton in girls A singles, and Sophie Mullen in girls B singles.

Noah Smith won consolation in boys B singles.

The Granbury junior varsity also played in a varsity tournament at Mineral Wells, with the duo of Elaina Berry and Chloe Counts taking first in girls doubles.

Katey Singer and D.J. Santiago were second in mixed doubles, Bryten Otting took second in boys singles, and Gabe Nall and Eric Delaney captured the consolation trophy in boys doubles.
