The North Central Texas Academy Pioneers set themselves up for a showdown with Wichita Falls Notre Dame at home this Friday by defeating Harrold 54-8 in a six-man football game in Mineral Wells last Friday.

The Pioneers (2-3) are ranked second in the state in Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools Six-Man Division II by Notre Dame (5-0) is ranked No. 1.

“We look forward to that challenge,” said NCTA coach Kirby Rasco of the Notre Dame matchup. “The kids are ready, and I believe it will be an outstanding game.”

Friday’s win over Harrold, the fourth public school the Pioneers have faced this season, was called at halftime because of six-man football’s 45-point mercy rule.

Jared Dodson was near perfect passing, going 8-for-9 for 245 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions. Cole Rasco caught three of the passes for 102 yards, all touchdowns.

In all, the Pioneers finished with 335 yards of offense in the short contest. They also found a new boost in kicker Raphael Rolfs, who was 6-for-7 on extra points, with the lone miss being a block.

Defensively, the Pioneers held Harrold (1-5) to under 120 yards of offense and recovered a pair of fumbles.

“We played well on both sides of the ball this week,” said coach Rasco. “Best defensive effort of the year.

“Offensively, we moved the ball well, both running and passing.

“Another bright spot was our PAT kicking. We had been struggling in that area and had some competition on Monday to try and motivate our guys, and we found a solid kicker in Raphael.”

Last season in Wichita Falls, Notre Dame won 64-18 over the Pioneers. That loss, plus a second-round playoff exit, prompted coach Rasco to beef up the NCTA nondistrict schedule to what is now arguably the toughest the program has ever seen.

The Pioneers had previously traveled to Zephyr ( a 63-16 loss) and Blum (a 68-66 loss) and hosted Lingleville (a 54-44 loss), all public schools.
