The North Central Texas Academy Pioneers finally played a home football game Friday night.
They are, however, still looking for their first home victory as the latest contest in their grueling schedule resulted in a 54-44 loss to public school Lingleville.
The Pioneers (1-3) led 38-30 after three quarters, but the Cardinals (3-1) finished with a 24-6 flurry to rally for the victory.
“Their spread back is better than anyone we will see all season,” said NCTA coach Kirby Rasco. “We just could not stop him in the second half.
“Our kids played hard all night, but just could not stop them late.”
Jared Dodson accounted for 319 yards of offense and six touchdowns for the Pioneers. He was 19-for-25 passing for 208 yards with four touchdowns and rushed eight times for 111 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Tyler Hoskins (92) and Drayton Williams (71) combined for 163 yards rushing. The duo also combinedfor 129 yards and three TDs receiving (Williams 4-97, 2 TDs; Hoskins 3-32, TD).
“District starts in two weeks, and I feel we are better than our record shows,” said Rasco. “We have played some tough (UIL) Division I schools, and it will pay off in the coming weeks.”
The Pioneers are back on the road this week as they will face Harrold in Mineral Wells Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Rasco said North Central Texas is playing such a tough schedule to prepare them for a very tough district.
