The North Central Texas Academy Pioneers won 48-42 at home over Denton Selwyn Tuesday to continue their turnaround from a rough start to the season.
The win improved the Pioneers (6-12 overall) to 4-2 in the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools District 2-A.
Caleb Finley led NCTA with 17 points, while Elias Fekadu scored 13. They combined for five 3-point baskets, with Fekadu hitting three and Finley connecting on two.
Also for NCTA, William Wayman scored seven points, Jared Dodson added six (including a 3-pointer), and Cale Dodson tallied five.
The Pioneers were idle last night and host Brownwood Victory Life Tuesday, the former team of NCTA coach Kirby Rasco.
LADY PIONEERS STAY
UNBEATEN IN DISTRICT
The North Central Texas Academy Lady Pioneers improved to 5-0 in the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools District 2-A with a 51-36 win over Wichita Christian.
The Lady Pioneers, two-time defending state champions, were led by Sara Etherington with 18 points, including an 8-for-11 performance at the free throw line.
Shelby Lyle added 17 points, including a 3-pointer, while Cynthia Rivas scored 11 with a pair of 3-pointers.
Also for NCTA (17-2 overall), Anna Strickland scored three and Melissa Rivera scored two.
“We’re really starting to gel,” said coach Emily Britt. “We’re getting some good minutes from the bench. Everyone is improving. All the hard work is paying off.”
The Lady Pioneers did not play last night. They host Brownwood Victory Life Tuesday.
Britt, a former standout for the Granbury Lady Pirates, is in her first season coaching NCTA.
