Getting back to their early season form, the North Central Texas Academy Pioneers made short work of visiting Lubbock Kingdom Prep in their TAPPS Six-Man Division II bidistrict football game Friday night.
The Pioneers (10-1) put the game away early in the third quarter, winning 59-12. The contest was called due to six-man football’s 45-point mercy rule.
The victory set the Pioneers up for a second-round contest against Seguin Lifegate (11-0), an 83-8 bidistrict winner against Houston Texas Christian. Lifegate is ranked third in the state in TAPPS Division II by sixmanfootball.com, while the Pioneers are fourth. The teams will meet Saturday at 4 p.m. at Waco Parkview.
NCTA’s lone loss this season was against Wichita Falls Notre Dame, the No. 1 team and a district foe.
Angel Tercero was nearly perfect passing in the win, going 13-for-15 for 159 yards and five touchdowns. Two of the TDs went to Josh Torres, who accounted for 240 yards with 135 rushing and 105 receiving.
Torres also returned an interception 46 yards for a score.
The Pioneers amassed 323 total yards in the shortened contest.
“Our kids played really well. They came out fired up and ready to play,” said NCTA coach Kirby Rasco. “Angel threw the ball better than we have seen him all year, and Josh had one of his better games as well.”
