Morgan Northcutt celebrated her final basketball season as a Granbury Lady Pirate just as Bryce Frank celebrated her first.
Both were named first-team All-District 7-4A by the league’s coaches.
Northcutt, a four-year member of the varsity, is a senior guard. Frank, who moved in from Aledo before the season, is a junior forward.
They are two of six Lady Pirates who earned accolades. Freshman post Amber Strange was named to the second team. Junior guard Caroline Forrest and junior forward Kennedy Shelstead joined sophomore guard Erin Jones as honorable mentions.
The Lady Pirates, in coach Leta Andrews’ 51st and final season, finished 19-13 and advanced to the second round of the playoffs. They defeated Burleson Centennial 50-46 in bidistrict and lost 40-39 to Wichita Falls Rider in the area round.
“These young ladies played with much spirit and determination,” said Andrews. “They have a lot of love for the game.
“With Morgan being the only senior, I truly was very proud of how hard they fought in every contest. They are super fine young ladies, and with Morgan, she will conquer every mission she undertakes.”
Northcutt averaged 16 points, six steals, six rebounds and five assists. But perhaps her most outstanding statistic is her 90-percent free throws success.
Northcutt set the school record for most consecutive free throws made when she sank 57 straight early in the season.
Northcutt was also a threat from the outside, hitting 33 percent of her 3-point shots. She came within one trey of matching the school record when she made nine and scored a career-high 35 in one game.
Frank averaged a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. She also averaged four steals and three assists.
Strange scored at a clip of eight points per game, while grabbing an average of 10 rebounds with three steals and three assists.
