No. 1 Lady Indians win new home debut

The Lipan Lady Indians christened their new gymnasium Tuesday with a 56-46 victory against Mineral Wells.

The Lady Indians, ranked No. 1 in the state in Class A Division II by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches, were led by Shauna Coleman’s 20 points, seven rebounds, five steals and two blocks.

The Lady Indians built a 10-point halftime cushion, 27-17, and made it hold up.

Lipan held the Lady Rams to 1-for-17 on 3-point shooting, while hitting six of the 20 treys they put up. Mineral Wells kept the game interesting by going 15-for-23 at the foul line, compared to 6-for-15 for Lipan.

Mineral Wells also had a 31-26 rebound advantage, but was forced into 30 turnovers.

Lipan is seeking a third consecutive trip to the state tournament. The Lady Indians finished second to Neches last season and were ousted in the semifinals by Neches in 2011.
