If Tolar’s new volleyball coach has his way, the Lady Rattlers won’t be taking off for any points this season.

Scotty Miller, who led Class A Evant to the regional tournament twice during his time there (2009-2012), said he has high expectations.

“My expectation is we’re going to win the whole thing (district). That’s my mindset,” said Miller.

The Lady Rattlers (12-15 last season), members of District 10-2A, which includes defending state champion Brock, began practices this week. Six of the players had some prior varsity playing time, seniors Reagan Mabery, Carson King, Madison Prichard-Warren and Cheyenne Clark, along with sophomores Madeline Dawson and Hannah Lee.

Mabery and Prichard-Warren were honorable mention all-district last season.

“We’ve got a lot of raw athletic ability,” Miller said.

“We’ve got some girls with some height. It could be a good year. We’ve got potential.”

In addition to the returning group, four others – including three freshmen who had been enrolled in Bluff Dale schools – arrived and have shown encouraging ability.

Today starting at 1 p.m. in Millsap, the Lady Rattlers will be in a three-way practice match against Clifton and Millsap. The first match of the season will be Tuesday against De Leon in Tolar.

The Lady Rattlers have not advanced to the playoffs since moving up to 2A in 2010.
