January 29, 2014

The North Central Texas Academy Lady Pioneers withstood an upset bid by visiting Wichita Falls Notre Dame Saturday to remain atop the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools District 2-A standings with a 39-36 victory.

“This was by far our toughest district game,” said NCTA coach Jodie Stevens. “It was a battle the entire time.”

Carolina Bianchi’s 3-pointer with 48 seconds left provided the difference.

Bianchi led NCTA (11-5, 5-0 in district) with 19 points.

The Lady Pioneers are seeking a fourth consecutive TAPPS Class A state championship. Stevens is their third coach in that span, with Tammy Evans there for the first two and Emily Britt, now a Granbury assistant, leading the way last season.

Pioneers plaster WFND,

win ninth straight

A 37-2 lead after the opening quarter set the tone for the NCTA Pioneers’ 63-25 district basketball victory against WF Notre Dame Saturday.

Stefan Rosic led NCTA (9-2, 5-0 in district) with 30 points. He scored 21 in the first quarter, and finished 12-for-13 from the field for the game.

“We got out to a very quick start and hurt them with our pressure,” said NCTA coach Kirby Rasco. “We hit our first four 3s and hit 63 percent from the field in the first half. Our defense and fast-break points frustrated them early.”
