NCTA teams stay on roll

The North Central Texas Academy boys and girls basketball teams continued their run through TAPPS District 2-A with wins over Wichita Falls Christ Academy Saturday at home.

The Pioneers also made their first appearance in the state rankings this week, 25th among small private schools in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches poll.

The Pioneers improved to 12-2 and won for a 12th consecutive time with a 53-33 victory. Stefan Rosic led NCTA, 8-0 in district, with 27 points.

“Last week was a long week, two road games and a district game, and we showed it on Saturday,” said Pioneers coach Kirby Rasco.

“We won, and that’s important, but we were tired.”

The Pioneers once again used a first-quarter outburst to take command, leading 21-4 after the opening eight minutes. They led 37-12 at the half.



The North Central Texas Lady Pioneers won for a ninth straight time as Esther Udonsi scored 19 points and Carolina Bianchi added 17.

The Lady Pioneers, three-time defending TAPPS Class A state champiions, improved to 14-5 overall. They sit atop TAPPS District 2-A with a spotless 8-0 record.

The Lady Pioneers are ranked 14th in the state.
